Synapse

Synapse is about connection – the way ideas form, meet and branch into something new.

The tangled branches and vines in this forest reminded me of the way our minds work, one thought leads to another, connections are made and ideas come together.

The forest itself is a kind of living network. Nothing exists entirely on its own. Trees, roots, vines, fungi, light and the countless organisms around them are constantly interacting and exchanging information.

I was drawn to the idea that our own brains work in a similar way. A synapse is the tiny connection between nerve cells where information passes from one cell to another. Those countless connections are what allow us to think, remember, imagine and create.

In the painting, the branches become almost like a visual map of those connections. The bright colours and layered brushwork reflect the energy of thoughts moving, colliding and connecting.

For me, Synapse is ultimately about brainpower, creativity and the connections that allow ideas to grow.
