Into the Woods – Confluence
It’s winter in Cape Town. The Japanese have a beautiful word, Komorebi, for the sunlight that filters through the leaves of trees. In winter, when the leaves have turned to rust and seem to be sleeping, that light feels like a quiet promise that warmer days are coming.
I recently reworked this painting to bring a little more of that glow into it. I also bought a tube of hot pink paint and couldn’t resist working some of it in just for the fun of it. It gave the painting a little more life and energy. Sometimes a painting only tells you what it needs once you’ve lived with it for a while.
