Description

A painting of Kalk Bay Harbour. This small harbour is the beating heart of Kalk Bay, a place of rhythm, routine, and quiet resilience. Each day fishermen return with their catch, their lives guided by tides, instinct and an intimacy with the ocean that feels both ancient and unknowable.

I’ve always been facinated by people of the sea. There’s a depth to their understanding of nature, of risk, of patience. Though our world is mostly water, so few of us truly belong to it. We skim its surface, wade into its edges, but rarely surrender to it. In many ways, we’ve drifted far from what we are made of.

Here, at the meeting point of land and ocean, the cycle continues: the sun rises in the east, the moon fades in the west and in between stand those who navigate both worlds with ease, anchored to neither yet at home in both.
