Iris Garden
In this garden painting, there lives vibrant purple irises along with Pig’s Ear and daisies. Each flower has a unique combination of colors, from deep purples and blues to soft pinks and yellows, creating a mesmerising tapestry of hues.
Irises have a rich history that dates back thousands of years. In Greek mythology, Iris was the goddess of the rainbow, serving as a messenger between the gods and humanity. The flower was named after her, symbolising communication, eloquence, and the passage of time. In ancient times, irises were also associated with the Egyptian goddess Isis, who was revered as a symbol of fertility and motherhood.
Beyond their mythological significance, irises have practical uses as well. The rhizomes of certain iris species have been used in traditional medicine for their anti-inflammatory and diuretic properties. In perfumery, iris extract, known as orris root, is prized for its sweet, floral scent and is a popular ingredient in luxury fragrances.
As a subject of art, irises have inspired countless artists throughout history, from Vincent van Gogh’s iconic “Irises” to Claude Monet’s dreamy water lily paintings. The intricate shapes and vibrant colors of irises make them a favorite among us artists, who are drawn to their beauty and symbolism.
