Into the Woods – Palmy Days
This painting centers on a majestic palm that resides in the woods of Arderne Gardens—a place where nature speaks in quiet, profound ways. The tree, with its sweeping leaves, forms a shape that is both fountain and umbrella: a living sculpture that uplifts the eye and shelters the space beneath it. I was drawn to this palm not only for its form, but for the feeling it evokes – at once open and protective, expansive yet grounded.
In this work, I sought to honor the presence of the tree as more than a botanical subject. It becomes a symbol of quiet strength and resilience, standing rooted while reaching skyward. Its leaves, filtering light, create a dynamic interplay between shadow and sky, motion and stillness. The palm’s gesture reminded me of a guardian—serene, watchful, and enduring.
Through color, texture, and composition, I invite the viewer to step into that moment of encounter, to feel what I felt under its canopy: a sense of calm, uplift, and quiet reverence for the natural world.
