We spend most of our holidays in the wonderful Eastern Cape. I pass this particular tree when I walk to the shops and to me its a visual confirmation that I am in the Eastern Cape and on holiday. They are called Lucky Bean (umSintsi) trees because when their pods dry, they scatter ‘Lucky Beans’ which are shiny to coral-red seeds. So not only are they beautiful to see but they remind me how lucky I am just to be.
