Into the Woods
Into the Woods
As I move into a new phase of my life the “Into the Woods” series started to develop. This path is both inviting and ominous. In the Southern Suburbs, where I live, there are trees everywhere and after so many years they have become the sentries that greet me every day.
I love working with oils and painting is my passion. Nature is the main inspiration of my work. I am constantly amazed how the cycles of life and death interwine and happens so quietly and beautifully. Sometimes there is an eerie feeling about how simple and fragile our lives are. We forget how much we are a part of nature’s cycles and that all the things we hold so dear are of no consequence to its majestic presence. The things we feel and see are the things that surpass mortality. I try to convey this feeling in my work.
Colour is an important factor in my work. I see colour as a gift from nature but it is also of great material value to me, it’s a bridge between nature’s treasures and mine. I try to mix my colours as little as possible. I layer these colours almost like a print, one at a time and so leave my human intrepetation on what I observe from nature.
